Our Woodville has a proud history of musical excellence and reaching for the stars, this Term has been no different. The Terms accomplishments so far have included; The OzAsia Chinese Music Day, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Rehearsals Unwrapped, Jazz Cabaret, Arts Assembly, Tuesday on Flinders, SIMC Welcome Night and Spring Seasonal Sessions.

OzAsia Chinese Music Day
On Sunday October 23, the Woodville High String Ensemble performed beautifully in collaboration with the School of Chinese Music’s Guzheng Ensemble. With one of Woodville High School’s core values being Diversity, it was a great privilege for the Woodville High String Ensemble to participate in OzAsia Festival as part of Chinese Music Day hosted by Elder Hall. Students shared their love of music with the community with great enthusiasm and should be commended on their professionalism and musicality.

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Rehearsals Unwrapped
On Wednesday October 26, the Special Music students were extremely privileged to go on excursion to see the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra rehearse a concert program as part of the ASO Learning program. The students got a behind the scenes insight into the final rehearsal before the orchestra began its series of performances. This was enhanced by conductor Guy Noble explaining about the repertoire, and what he was doing in the rehearsal. The students were treated to pieces by Dvorak, Smetana, Sibelius, Koehne and Copland.

Jazz Cabaret
On Wednesday October 26, the Music Centre presented the annual Jazz Cabaret, featuring co-curricular jazz ensembles. This was an excellent night with some amazing performances from the Big Band, Senior Choir, Jazz Combo and Stage Band. It was also an opportunity to farewell our graduating music class of 2022 and acknowledge the significant contributions they have made to the school and music centre over the past 5 years. This was the first time we have held the Jazz Cabaret at The Gov, an award-winning performance venue, and it was a great night.

Arts Assembly
It was a wonderful experience to be able to showcase our large co-curricular ensembles at the Arts Assembly on Friday October 28. The Wind Ensemble, Big Band, Concert Band, Stage Band, String Ensemble and Senior Choir each presented an item to showcase all the hard work throughout the year. Well done to all students and staff.

Tuesday on Flinders
On Tuesday November 1, students from the Stage 1 Music class performed at Flinders Street Baptist Church as part of the Tuesday on Flinders concert series. It was an excellent performance, with a wide range of styles and instruments, which was enthusiastically received by the audience.

SIMC Welcome Night
On Thursday November 3, we held a welcome night to support the transition of the 2023 year 7 Special Music students. It was great to meet the incoming cohort and their families. They were entertained by the Chamber Strings. Thanks to all the music staff for their support of this event.

Spring Seasonal Sessions
On Sunday November 6, students from the Saxophone Quintet performed at the Jade, as part of the Spring Seasonal Sessions run by the South Australian Clarinets and Saxophones. They were the only school ensemble which performed and represented Woodville High School exceptionally well. Year 11 students Jordan Ng and Amber Bader Hayes also performed as soloists.
