Tuesday On Flinders Year 11’s
On Tuesday 2nd November, the Year 11 music class performed at Flinders Street Baptist Church as part of the Tuesday on Flinders lunch hour concert series. We are pleased to continue our long-term commitment to performing 4 times a year, which we have now done for many years. The students presented a diverse program of excellent performances, across a range of styles and instruments.
Special Interest Music Centre Welcome Night
On Thursday 18th November, the Special Interest Music Centre hosted a Welcome evening for 2022 incoming special music students. This was a great opportunity for our new students to get information about 2022 and meet the music staff. It was a well-attended evening and will be part of our transition program from now on.
Middle School Online Concert Series
On Wednesday 10th November, the year 8-10 music students presented the annual middle school concert series, streamed to YouTube. This was the second of our middle school concert series performances for 2022, and it was great to see how much musical development has taken place throughout the year. Thanks to Terry Bickley, Music Coordinator, for his organisation, compering and live streaming of the series.
Year 12 Graduation Night
It was a great pleasure to provide music for the Year 12 Graduation Night in the Adelaide Town Hall. The change in venue allowed us to showcase the Special Interest Music Centre with a range of performance ensembles able to present performances. The Chamber Strings performed downstairs as guests entered the building and once up in the foyer, guests were entertained by the Saxophone Quintet.
It was a wonderful to have the opportunity to showcase two of our senior ensembles during the ceremony, and the Wind Ensemble and Stage Band presented a high standard of performance. It was also great to recognise the outstanding achievements of our year 12 music students and present the following awards:
Music Explorations Award: Peter Cauchi Music Solo Performance Award: Ava Barton Most Versatile Performer Award: Jenny Binnie Music Dux Award: Ava Barton

Ava Barton
I would just like to highlight the achievements of Year 12 student Ava Barton. Recently, she undertook her 8th Grade Flute examination, under the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). This is one of the highest level exams that students can attempt, and Ava was awarded an A (Honours) for her exam. Ava also successfully auditioned for the Elder Conservatorium of Music and was one of the only students offered a place in the Advanced Performance stream of the degree course. Well done Ava!
