Dear Families, Students and Staff of Woodville High School,

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope the break provided you with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and reflect on the new term ahead.

As we return, the crisp air and changing leaves remind us of the beauty of transition. The story of Autumn unfolds around us, as the colours of red and gold cascade from the trees, painting our days with warmth, curiosity and wonder. It is a powerful reminder that change can be beautiful and with it comes new beginnings as we prepare for an invigorating term of academic and personal growth.

This term offers us a fresh opportunity to set goals, embrace challenges, and support one another in every step of our learning journey. I encourage each of you to step into Term 2 with purpose, positivity, and pride in all that we are achieving together at Woodville High School.

Term 1 was a vibrant and successful start to the year. Our students demonstrated excellence across many areas—from outstanding academic achievement and strong participation in sports, to creative brilliance in the arts and through our music performances. We celebrated cultural diversity through Harmony Week and showcased musical talent at Jazz in the Hub, which served as an exciting rehearsal for the upcoming Generations in Jazz event. Students participated in House activities throughout the term and embraced leadership, engaging in decision-making across a range of portfolios, further highlighting their commitment to shaping a positive and inclusive school culture.

At Woodville High School, our achievements have strongly aligned with the Department for Education’s Strategy for Public Education, demonstrating our commitment to excellence, equity, wellbeing, and student agency. We commenced our planning during our student free days for the implementation of the South Australian Curriculum for Public Education, with focus on authentic deep learning developed through a lens of high expectations, metacognition and facilitated by a design thinking learning process that is co-designed and supported by a learning ecosystem.

In Term 1, staff and families worked together to foster a positive, supportive environment that truly reflects the spirit of our school. The Acquaintance Evening, Laureate Assembly, Taste of High School, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Vietnamese Family Night, International Women’s Day, Open Day, Harmony Day, Old Scholars Association AGM, Governing Council AGM, excursions, Hosei University Junior High School visit, international career event and Jazz in the Hub, all provided opportunities for families to connect with staff and students at Woodville High School. All our celebrations and events provided an opportunity for us to celebrate our story, our journey, our purpose, our achievements and highlight who we aspire to be for our community. So, as we step into Term 2, let us carry that momentum forward. Set new goals, stay curious, and continue striving for excellence in everything you do.

On the first day back, all students will reflect on their progress in Term 1 and establish new goals for Term 2, using their own data from their dashboards that are accessible via SEQTA. Time and support will be provided in their Thrive lesson with their House Group teacher during Lesson 3. Students will identify a capability to focus on throughout Term 2 and also set their achievement targets for each of their subjects. Students should be aspirational with their goals, setting high expectations for themselves term by term and focus on a capability they would like to develop through the curriculum that is transferrable to all aspects of their life.

We have another term full of new and exciting learning opportunities. Term 2 promises to be a vibrant and exciting term, with a full calendar that includes our Sports Day, Arts Spectacular, Generations in Jazz, SACE and Careers Expo, assemblies and special celebrations that honour the diversity of our school community. We also warmly welcome our international visitors from India, whose presence enhances our shared cultural understanding and global perspective.

Our Year 12 students have a significant term ahead as they advance through their academic coursework, complete key SACE assessments, and commence preparations for their mid-year examinations. I extend my best wishes and full support to each student as they navigate this important stage of their final year with focus, resilience, and determination.

ANZAC Day was commemorated on Thursday 25 April 2025, during the school holidays. Our Student Leaders represented Middle Harbour with pride and respect, reminding us of the importance of honouring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. We thank those leaders who attended dawn services on Sunday, embodying the values of remembrance and gratitude. We hope their involvement inspires them to contribute meaningfully to a more peaceful and compassionate future.

We look forward to the opportunities and achievements this term will bring and we are honoured to share this journey with each of you.

I wish you all the best for a wonderful term ahead and look forward to seeing you here at Woodville High School.

Kind regards,
Anna Mirasgentis
