Following examinations, Semester 1 came to a close Friday 20 June. I am proud of the way our students have embraced Semester 2, following a term filled with learning, performances, competitions, exhibitions and community activities and celebrations. It is inspiring to see students engaged in such a wonderful array of pursuits. Across the middle and senior years, it has been a busy term, and I thank students, staff and parents for making semester 1 such a great success.
I thank the staff and students who delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing our Music, Dance and Drama programs and a heartfelt thank you to the families and education community who attended and supported the students and staff.
As we approach the mid-year break, I encourage all students to find some space to review this semester. To ask themselves: What did I achieve, how did I grow? Have I made any choices to take action to improve in all areas of my life? What has been the outcome of my choices? By acknowledging the impact or outcomes of your decisions, it’s likely you are developing a more confident sense of control in your life and a clear direction by creating coherence in all aspects of your life. I often remind students that you become what your habits are. I encourage all students to make this review of their choices and habits over the holidays.
Our values at Woodville High School have always been our compass, guiding how we learn, lead, and grow together. We aspire for our students to be equipped for a future where they can confidently navigate the digital landscape. This includes teaching our young people how to critically evaluate the media they consume, protect their privacy, and engage online in ways that are respectful and responsible. But beyond technical skills, we continue to emphasise the enduring importance of what makes us human, our ability to connect, to empathise, and to build meaningful relationships. This is central to our school’s vision and reflects our belief that what unites our generations is the enduring need for values, values that anchor us in a world of constant change.
As part of this journey, we ask you to have a conversation with your child about their use of social media. These discussions are essential in helping young people reflect on how their online actions align with the values we uphold as a community, diversity, integrity, and resilience. Your guidance at home, together with our support at school, helps reinforce the message that how we interact online is just as important as how we behave face to face. We will be putting a committee together to look at how we can navigate the digital landscape with our young people, families and community. The committee will bring together staff, students, and families to explore current digital challenges and opportunities, and to help guide our school’s approach to digital wellbeing and online safety. If you are interested in participating, please reply to anna.mirasgentis953@schools.sa.edu.au We value your voice, perspective and experience and we look forward to collaborating with you.
Reports
As we continue to Strive for Excellence, the upcoming school holidays provide an opportunity for all students to reflect on their efforts so far this year. As well as celebrating success and achievement, identifying areas for improvement is also a critical aspect of ongoing personal growth.
As we approach the halfway point of the year, the Semester 1, Term 2 report provides an opportunity for review and reflection on academic progress, and students are encouraged to lead this conversation with their families. Semester 1 reports will be released via SEQTA on Friday 4 July and this gives families the opportunity to convene with their children and discuss their progress and achievement. It is important to encourage students to lead the conversation about their successes, challenges and opportunities. Wednesday, 27 August is an opportunity for families to book times with teachers to gain further insights into the academic and pastoral progress of their children.
On the last day of school, students will be dismissed at 2.30pm. Printed copies of reports can be made available on request.
It has been an extremely busy Semester, and I wish both staff and students a well-deserved break. When we review the semester, everyone should be proud of their achievements whether it is in the classroom, on the sporting field, on stage, in service to our community or in achieving our own goals. The numerous highlights this semester reflect the diversity of curriculum and co-curricular opportunities and are a reflection on the people who make up our wonderful community.
2026 Curriculum Handbook
The Course Counselling process for the 2026 subject selections will begin in Week 1 next term. Information will be shared with students at their House Assemblies on Day 1 and a letter will be distributed early next term. The 2026 Curriculum Handbook is now available to support the Course Counselling process. The Handbook outlines the Curriculum from Year 7 – 12 and is designed to support students and their families to make informed decisions when selecting subjects, to ensure students have a wide range of post-school options. The Handbook includes descriptions detailing the content and the assessment requirements of each subject. It is important that students, with the support of their families, begin to plan possible career pathways of study.
