After visiting the “Chihuly in the Botanic Garden” exhibition at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens in Semester 1, the Year 9 Art class participated in “Watching Glass Grow”, a Challenge Course inspired by the Dale Chihuly exhibition and the State Herbarium and created by local education technology company, Makers Empire.

More than 4000 students took part in the course, and from these, 10 designs were
selected to be part of a virtual gallery in the Garden. The digital designs of two of Our Woodville Year 9 students Emily P and Alana S were included in this selection.

“My design ‘stemmed’ (pun intended), from my inspiration when spending time outdoors, particularly from our school garden, where I was immersed in nature. I was captivated by the beauty of small flowers, and decided to recreate that beauty through a glass sculpture”. (Emily P)

“My design is based on several pond plants, similar to reeds, with flowers on top. I was inspired by reeds that surround ponds and flowers based on flowers in the school garden”. (Alana S)

Congratulations to Emily and Alana for their outstanding achievements! To see their fantastic designs, visitors are able to visit the Augmented Reality exhibition at Adelaide Botanic Gardens until 31 December 2025 and enjoy the self-guided trail.
