Woodville High School is proud to be the first school in Australia to launch Lunch for Democracy, an initiative that aligns strongly with our commitment to student voice, global citizenship, and democratic participation.
As a school community representing more than 95 cultures, languages, and backgrounds, Our Woodville provides a unique environment for meaningful conversations about democracy, media, trust, and the future our young people want to shape. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, making Woodville High School a natural place for these important discussions to begin.
Founded by Lesley-Anne Long and Clare Kandola, Lunch for Democracy operates across more than nine countries, creating safe and inclusive spaces for young people to come together, share perspectives, and engage in respectful dialogue about the issues that matter most to them.
A heartfelt thank you to Serafina Maiorano, Australian Ambassador for Lunch for Democracy and Founder of Our Global Table, whose passion for this program brought #LunchForDemocracy to Woodville High School and to Australia. We are grateful for her generous support of our staff and students.
Rather than formal panels or presentations, the initiative centres on conversation, connection, and the power of listening to different viewpoints and perspectives. Through shared lunches and student-led discussion, our students will become part of a growing global movement that values curiosity, empathy, and active citizenship.
Our Lunch for Democracy will roll out in three phases, beginning with a select student group, expanding school-wide, and ultimately connecting our students in live conversation with peers from other countries, sharing perspectives across cultures and borders.
Woodville High School looks forward to continuing this exciting collaboration alongside international and community partners including Ajay Yadav and Amber Fabel Brock.
