Woodville High School hosted the official launch of the Chinese Basketball Academy which commences in 2027. This innovative program is the result of an exciting partnership with the Adelaide 36ers, Woodville High School and the Department for Education. This Academy highlights our commitment not only to sporting excellence but also to fostering global citizenship and intercultural understanding within our school community.

This collaboration exemplifies what is possible when we connect education, sport, and international engagement. The Chinese Basketball Academy will deliver exceptional learning experiences bringing together academic rigour with elite sporting and cultural opportunities. Our students will benefit from specialist coaching and strength and conditioning, as well as access to world-class training facilities and mentoring by experienced professionals. Equally important are the opportunities for international exchange, where our young players will connect, learn, and grow alongside their peers from China, developing friendships and understanding that reach far beyond the basketball court.

We are proud for Woodville High School to play a key role in connecting South Australia’s public education and sporting excellence on a global stage.

Woodville High School was proud to host the 2026 Inspiring Australians Student Summit, celebrating leadership, aspiration, and student voice. The event provided an opportunity for our student leaders to share their stories, reflect on their leadership journey, and connect with inspiring Australians from a range of industries and backgrounds.

Students heard from an outstanding lineup of guest speakers, including Katherine Bennell-Pegg, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and Amber Fabel Brock, whose stories and wisdom inspired students to think boldly about their futures and the impact they can have on the world around them.

We are incredibly proud of Natasha, Mohammed, and Virat for representing Our Woodville with confidence, authenticity, and a strong commitment to empowering others. It was an absolute honour for Woodville High School to host students, educators, special guests, and community members who are passionate about learning, leadership, and making a positive difference. Bringing together so many voices and stories reminds us of the strength and unity within our school and across South Australia.

Our aspiration from today was that all students left today feeling motivated to take on new challenges, support one another, and use their voice to shape their future and their community. Students were invited beyond this event to reflect on this question: What is one idea, action, or value that you will take from today to help build a better world, not just for yourself, but for those who will follow in your footsteps? Your ideas and actions matter. The connections you’ve made here can spark positive change far beyond this room.

Thank you to all the schools who attended our event:

The atmosphere throughout the night was one of excitement, pride, and possibility, as we showcased the vibrant, collaborative community that makes Our Woodville truly unique.

The success of our Open Evening was driven by the collective efforts of staff and students alike. It was a true demonstration of what can be accomplished when a community works together toward a shared vision. From the earliest preparations to the final moments of the evening, the teamwork, energy, and dedication of our school was on full display.

A highlight of the evening was the outstanding contribution of our student leaders, who confidently stepped into the role of tour guides and ambassadors. These students not only led tours for our guests but also shared their personal experiences of learning and growth. Their passion for their school, commitment to helping others, and sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on those who attended. Our student leaders exemplified the values central to our school. By leading the evening’s activities and engaging meaningfully with prospective families, they set the tone for what new students and their families can expect from their Woodville journey.

The dedication of our teaching staff was evident in the engaging, creative, and interactive displays presented across all Learning Areas. Every classroom and specialist learning space became a vibrant hub of activity, with staff and students on hand to demonstrate the practical skills, knowledge, and passions that are embedded in our curriculum.

It is important to acknowledge and sincerely thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make the 2026 Open Evening a success. To our staff, thank you for your exceptional professionalism, support and creativity. To our students, your leadership, initiative, and collaboration are what truly brings our school to life. To our families and community members, your ongoing engagement, feedback, and support help us to continue building a school we can all be proud of. Our Future, Our Place, Our Woodville.

Woodville High School students had the valuable opportunity to attend the Adelaide International Women’s Day Breakfast, joining thousands of community leaders, organisations, and schools in a shared celebration of the achievements of women and a collective commitment to advancing gender equality. The event brought together a diverse audience from across South Australia, creating a powerful and inspiring atmosphere that highlighted the importance of connection, advocacy, and meaningful change.

International Women’s Day continues to serve as a global platform for recognising the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also calling attention to the work still required to achieve true equality. For our students, attending this event provided a unique and authentic learning experience beyond the classroom, allowing them to engage directly with real-world conversations about leadership, opportunity, and the role young people can play in shaping a more equitable future.

A highlight of the morning was hearing from keynote speaker Katherine Bennell-Pegg, whose journey and achievements offered a powerful example of perseverance, ambition, and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields. Her insights into her career pathway, challenges faced, and the importance of resilience resonated strongly with students, particularly those with aspirations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Her story reinforced the message that with determination, curiosity, and support, young women can pursue any pathway and make significant contributions to the world.

The event was hosted by Penny Wong, whose leadership and advocacy for equality continue to inspire audiences across the nation. Her reflections emphasised the importance of representation, inclusion, and the responsibility we all share in creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. The morning was expertly guided by MC Sonya Feldhoff, whose engaging presence helped bring together the powerful stories and messages shared throughout the event.

Throughout the breakfast, students were exposed to a range of perspectives and experiences that highlighted the importance of resilience, courage, and leadership. The discussions encouraged students to think critically about the role they can play in supporting gender equality, both within their own communities and on a broader scale. The event also reinforced the importance of allyship, respect, and lifting one another up to ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, have access to the same opportunities.

Beyond the formal presentations, the experience of being surrounded by such a large and diverse group of individuals committed to positive change left a lasting impression on our students. It demonstrated the power of collective action and the impact that can be achieved when communities come together with a shared purpose. For many students, it was an opportunity to see firsthand the influence of strong female leaders and to envision their own future pathways with greater confidence.

Attending the Adelaide International Women’s Day Breakfast aligns closely with Woodville High School’s commitment to fostering student voice, leadership, and global citizenship. Experiences like this support students in developing a deeper understanding of social issues, encouraging them to engage with the world around them in thoughtful and meaningful ways.

Our students left the event feeling inspired and motivated by the stories shared throughout the morning. They gained a greater appreciation for the importance of perseverance, advocacy, and using their voice to contribute to positive change. Most importantly, the experience reinforced the significance of empowering the next generation of young women to lead, innovate, and make a difference in their communities and beyond.

Woodville High School is proud to provide opportunities such as this, where students can connect with real-world experiences, be inspired by role models, and continue to grow as confident, capable, and compassionate individuals ready to shape the future.

Harmony week, and its message could not be more relevant. Considering current global events, it has never been more important for us as a community to come together and reflect on how we choose to invest in one another. Harmony week, celebrated each year across Australia, is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone, regardless of background, gender, race, ethnicity or religion.

Harmony Day is particularly significant at Our Woodville, where 92 cultural groups are represented within our school community, making us one of the most diverse schools in South Australia. This diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we are deeply aware of the need for respect, understanding, and partnership among the many cultures that make up Our Woodville. We acknowledge diversity as a fact, inclusion as an action, and belonging as the outcome. These principles not only embody the values of Harmony Day, but also our school values of Diversity, Integrity, and Resilience. During Harmony Week, students and staff participated in a range of student led activities and classroom experiences designed to celebrate our unique strengths and deepen our collective understanding. Through our commitment to deep authentic learning students and staff approached activities with curiosity and a spirit of learning, practising empathy, listening with intent, and helping to create a school where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued and a deep sense of belonging.

During our THRIVE lessons, students thought about the deeper meaning of harmony and how it is reflected across our school through our core values and beliefs. Each student wrote positive comments about themselves and our Woodville School community on an orange star. These were shared in the classrooms and were then displayed in our courtyard. There was Harmony Day cake as well as inclusive games our Learning Hub. Staff and students were encouraged to wear orange on Wednesday and a selection of world music was played during lunchtimes throughout the week.

Student leaders from Woodville High School initiated a collaboration, partnering with local primary schools including Kilkenny Primary School, Brompton Primary School, Woodville Gardens School, Woodville Primary School and Pennington Primary School. Through a series of brainstorming workshops and a public vote, students unanimously chose a theme that mattered deeply to them: protecting our oceans and waterways.

More than twelve months later, with new sponsors supporting the vision and South Australia facing a significant marine crisis linked to widespread algal bloom, the message of this mural has become even more urgent. Now proudly installed in its new home in Port Adelaide, the work stands overlooking the Port River as both artwork and advocacy.

Thanks to the generosity of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, this large-scale collaborative mural has become a lasting symbol of youth voice and environmental responsibility.

More than 200 students from across Adelaide’s inner west contributed their creativity and conviction to this project. Together, they share one clear plea: protect our oceans and waterways, our marine life and creatures, our places where we gather, our places are fun and recreation and our deep connection to nature, for our generation and for all those to come.

Thank you to the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and Natalia Bajcic for supporting this inspiring project.
