As part of Refugee Week 2026 and this year’s theme, “A Million Stories,” Woodville High School was proud to be represented at a special exhibition and celebration hosted by the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC). The event recognised the stories, cultures, and contributions of refugees and celebrated the diversity that enriches our communities.
We congratulate Jenny, Nisha, and Sianna, whose creative works were selected for display, showcasing their talent, perspectives, and powerful storytelling. Their contributions highlighted the importance of sharing experiences, celebrating identity, and recognising the many journeys that shape Australia’s multicultural community.
A highlight of the event was a heartfelt speech delivered by Jenny, who reflected on her family’s refugee journey and the opportunities that have shaped her life in Australia today. Drawing on themes of resilience, hope, and belonging, Jenny shared a powerful reminder that behind every refugee story is a human story — one of courage, perseverance, and the pursuit of a better future. Her words resonated deeply with those in attendance and beautifully reflected the significance of this year’s Refugee Week theme.
A special thank you to Gabby Daniele and Amy Patyi, whose guidance, encouragement, and commitment to student voice helped support our students throughout the project. Their dedication provided students with the opportunity to express their creativity and engage meaningfully with the theme of Refugee Week.
We are incredibly proud of Jenny, Nisha, and Sianna for representing Our Woodville with confidence, authenticity, and pride, contributing to an event that celebrated inclusion, belonging, and the many stories that continue to shape our community and our nation.
