Congratulations to Kalyan Shrestha who has been bestowed an Excellence Award from the Virtual War Memorial Australia for his 2023 Profile and Biographical Research on Australian Serviceperson, Edward Charles Barlow. Kalyan is the first student from Our Woodville to receive this award.
This outstanding research task formed part of the Year 9 HASS Unit on the First World War and provided students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and understanding of the impact of war on our society.
Kalyan showed a keen interest in using online resources to tell his serviceperson’s lived experience, discovering his true story, which was then uploaded to the VWMA site providing a permanent contribution to the historical record – and to the serviceperson’s family. Kalyan’s contribution will be recognised at an Awards Ceremony on Monday 8th April with the Honourable Blair Boyer MP, Minister for Education in attendance.
The Virtual War Memorial Australia (VWMA) is a national digital memorial dedicated to commemorating all who have served the nation in times of war, armed conflict and peacekeeping operations – both the fallen and those who returned from service and contributed to building of our nation.
