This term, a group of talented Year 9 students from Woodville High School took part in the 2025 Refugee Week Youth Poster Awards and Exhibition, a state-wide art competition coordinated by the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC). The competition invites young people across South Australia to create powerful, original artworks that reflect the annual Refugee Week theme — this year focused on celebrating the courage, resilience, and contributions of refugees in our communities.

In what was an incredibly competitive field, we are proud to announce that two of our students were selected to have their artworks exhibited as part of the final showcase. Congratulations to Maya, who received Third Place, and Maria, who was awarded First Place — an outstanding achievement that speaks to their creativity, empathy, and dedication.

The Youth Poster Awards aim to foster greater awareness and understanding of refugee experiences through visual storytelling. We are immensely proud of all the Year 9 students who participated and engaged so thoughtfully with this important project. Their work exemplifies the values of inclusion, social justice, and student voice that we champion here at Our Woodville.

Well done to everyone involved — especially Maya and Maria — for representing our school community with such insight and artistic excellence.
