Throughout Term 3 and 4, Our Woodville Students were involved in a collaboration with Maker’s Empire and the Andy Thomas Space Foundation to get students with disabilities 3D designing and thinking about space technologies. Students were posed with open ended problems such as ‘to get to space I will need…’ and ‘when I am in space I will need.’ Student then were guided through a design thinking process to create a design that would answer the prompt. The Foundation provided the school with a 3D printer and professionally developed our teachers to be able to support the students in 3D modelling their designs. This program has helped develop student independence, creativity and boosting resilience in the process of their design. Students were able to visit the Australian Space Discovery Centre to enable their inspiration and learn about the space industry in South Australia. To support ongoing student learning the Mission provided the school with a 3D printer and software for designing.

A big thank you to April Harris the teacher of 8.13 and Jordan Della Pietra for applying for and leading this project. You can see the 3D prints of the students on display at the Australian Space Discovery Centre.
