The Project Time theme for Term 2 is ‘Our Country, Our Place’, coinciding with Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week activities and building on the students’ knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
On Wednesday 1 June, all Year 7 students travelled to the City of Adelaide to visit the South Australian Museum and the Art Gallery of South Australia. Students and staff participated in structured tours of both venues; becoming immersed in the current exhibitions with a particular focus on broadening our experiences of Indigenous culture and further developing understanding of the significance of country and place. Students were tasked with seeking out specific displays, artefacts and artworks, drawing connections between country and place and their own identities and beliefs to promote intercultural understanding.
We were supported in this by the school’s Aboriginal Education team.
We finished the day with a walk through the Botanic Gardens to appreciate the native plants and natural beauty of Kaurna land.
It was a privilege to be able to share this experience as a year level during National Reconciliation Week.
