White Ribbon Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the issue of violence against women in Australia and around the world.
Woodville High School supported taking action to end men’s violence against women.
On White Ribbon Day, Friday 18 November, the focus was on the action men can take to end violence against women – asking “How Can Men Make Change?” and calling on all Australians, men included, to “Learn, Give and Take Action.”
The theme of the day was to raise awareness about how we can all play our part – we need men who know they are a part of the solution to be equipped with the tools required to make change in themselves, their communities and our society.
“We need to shift the attitudes and social norms that excuse or condone disrespect, sexual harassment and abuse. Men’s behaviour is at the heart of this problem, but it’s essential that men are part of the solution.”
Staff and studentstook opportunity to have their photo taken in our White Ribbon Day Frame in the Wellbeing Hub at Recess and Lunch time and wore white ribbons on the day.
Students from Year 10 Health and HASS classes will be involved in the City of Charles Sturt Clotheslines Project The Clothesline Project started in 1990 in the USA and was developed as a tool for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt which will be displayed in the school.
