Music Captain success
Congratulations to our Senior Head Music Captain Matty R whose amazing accomplishment was celebrated recently. Matty has been accepted as a member of the Australian Defence Force and enlisted into the Australian Army Reserve after a considerable enlistment period. Our Woodville is extremely proud of you and thanks you for your service to country.
Tuesday on Flinders -Year 11 Solo Performance
On Tuesday October 29, 7 of our Woodville’s Year 11 music students presented a performance as part of the Tuesday on Flinders Concert Series, at Flinders Street Baptist Church. The talented musicians presented a varied program of musical works to a large, appreciative audience. We are proud of our Year 11 students continuing this tradition of performing for the concert series, which is now in its 21st year.
Year 12 Farewell Assembly
As we farewelled our Class of 2024 at the final assembly of the year, we also presented musical performances from our senior students. Music Captain Claire T sang the national anthem, and the Jazz Combo presented 2 pieces to the school audience. The Jaz Combo, who were awarded 3rd place at this year’s Generations in Jazz festival, performed Manteca, and Uptown Funk (arranged by Music Captain Matty R), and featured improvised solos from Year 12 students Seb PS, David J, Jiley N, Matty R, Daniel C, Taj V, and Orlando D-L, along with year 10 student Oscar H. It was a fitting farewell performance from our year 12’s to the year 12 class of 2024.
Jazz Cabaret
On Wednesday October 30, the music centre presented the annual Jazz Cabaret, held at the Gov. This evening featured performances from our jazz ensembles, beginning with our newest jazz group the Big Bandits. This was followed with performances from Big Band, Jazz Combo, Senior Choir and Stage Band. Interspersed with these performances was a performance by the year 12 jazz combo, and the music centre farewell to the year 12 class of 2024. It was another outstanding evening of jazz performances, and a wonderful way to finish year for the year 12 class. Many thanks to the music staff for their efforts in putting on another amazing evening.
