As part of our school’s commitment to celebrating Refugee Week 2025, we are proud to announce the creation of a new film titled Finding Freedom. This project aligns with this year’s theme, “Finding Freedom: Diversity in Community,” which emphasizes the vital role communities play in providing safety, belonging, and the strength to heal and rebuild their lives.
The film is a heartfelt compilation of personal stories from our students, parents, alumni and our school’s and Department of Education, South Australia’s BSSOs who have experienced displacement, war, poverty, and struggle. Through their narratives, we witness the incredible resilience and strength of individuals as they navigate the challenges of redefining home in a new country with new freedoms.
Storytelling has the profound power to invite us into others’ experiences, fostering empathy and understanding. It highlights the continued struggles faced by those forced to flee their homelands and invites our community to engage with their stories through respectful dialogue, education, and awareness. By embracing this theme, Refugee Week reinforces our collective responsibility to foster a more just, inclusive, and compassionate society—one in which freedom is not merely an ideal, but a lived reality for all.
