Taste of High School
Students from the year 10 music class have been heavily involved in every Taste of High School event this term. They have performed for over 620 students from eight of our feeder primary schools and assisted the students in trying out many of the musical instruments on offer at Woodville High School. This has taken significant preparation and our thanks must go to the Year 10’s for a massive commitment to the promotion of music at Woodville High School. Thanks also to Terry Bickley for leading the performances and Anthony Bishop and Celeste Wong for directing the ensembles which performed.
Primary School Tours
Another of our regular school promotion activities is touring our feeder primary schools.
The Stage Band presented six concerts over two days at Kilkenny Primary, Challa Gardens Primary, Woodville Primary, LeFevre Peninsular Primary, Hendon Primary and Allenby Gardens Primary Schools. We showcased the different sections of the band, and talked about the different music courses at Woodville High School. Thanks to Sam Tuffnell and Alice Forster for their organisation of these performances.
On Thursday, 4 March, the Woodville High String Ensemble embarked upon the annual Primary School Strings Tour to perform at three local primary schools. The schools we visited were: Prospect Primary, Woodville Gardens Primary and Kidman Park Primary. Students performed well on the day and really showed incredible team spirit as well as strong ensemble skills with each performance stronger than the last. Thank you to teachers Anthony Bishop and Nigel Gramp for supporting and ensuring that the day was a memorable and successful day for the ensemble.

Open Night
Students from the Stage Band, Big Band and Chamber Strings, along with some selected soloists accompanied by the fantastic Mr Ed Kriek, entertained the crowds at our recent Open Night on Wednesday 17th March. It was wonderful to have music in the front foyer as people arrived. As families moved throughout the school, they were entertained by the Strings under the shelter shed, and the Big Band and Stage Band in the Music and Performing Arts Centres. It was a great opportunity to showcase the music ensembles, whilst sneaking in an extra rehearsal. Thanks to the dedication of the Music Staff and students for their commitment to the positive promotion of the Special Interest Music Centre.
Saxophone Quintet
On Wednesday 17th March, the Woodville High School Saxophone Quintet and their esteemed director Mr Terry Bickley (Music Coordinator) presented a concert at the Arch Patterson Community Centre for a luncheon put on by the Aging Well organisation. Terry and the Saxes played a varied program of music from many styles and eras, and were extremely well received. Terry entertained the crowd in between the musical items, and spoke of the commitment of the music students to many rehearsals and performances. We were pleased to receive a phone call later that day to confirm how much the audience enjoyed and appreciated the performance. Thanks to Terry and the Saxophone Quintet.
