Special Music Auditions
We have recently hosted a number of year 6 students who have auditioned for the Special Interest Music Program for 2023. There were some great auditions from students on a wide range of instruments, and I am pleased to announce that year 7 Special Interest Music numbers are looking strong for 2023. We will be accepting further applications from students in zone during the transition days at the end of this year.
Middle School Assembly
It was wonderful to be able to present a live performance for the recent Middle School assembly. Thanks to Celeste Wong and the Chamber Strings for your performance.
SACE Merit Awards
On Friday 20 May, selected brass students travelled to Government House to perform the Vice Regal Salute for the SACE Merit Awards. They joined with students from Brighton Secondary School and Playford International College to form the combined Special Interest Music Centres’ Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Head of Music, Paul Monaghan.
Generations in Jazz
During the first part of this year, students from the Stage Band, Big Band and Senior Choir have been busy preparing repertoire for the 2022 Generations in Jazz competition. This year’s event is a hybrid event with ensembles needing to submit videos of the performances to be centrally judged. The Music Centre is hosting an event for these students on Thursday 16 June, so we can watch the livestreamed Gala Concert together.
Flinders Street Baptist Church Concert
We were pleased to be able to continue our long relationship with the Flinders Street Baptist Church concert series for 2022. On Tuesday 31 May, the Stage 2 Solo Performance class presented our first of 4 concerts for this year. The students presented an excellent program of varied music to a large audience to an extremely positive response. Thanks to Music Coordinator Terry Bickley and piano accompanist extraordinaire Ed Kriek.
